Bill McQueen will start off his series of studies with the first of five different courses to be offered through 2017 to 2018. The first will be Singing from God’s Hymn Book, consisting of studies in the Psalms. He will continue with Readings from Jesus’ Favorite Book, a study of selections from Deuteronomy. The Forgotten Heroes of the Bible studies little known and often unnamed people who did wonderful things for God (and gives hope to all of us that we, too can do wonderful things for God). The fourth study, The Glorious Artistry of Our Great Creator, shows the fingerprints of God on every atom in the universe. The fifth, and final, study is called How to Keep from Falling in Love.
You will just have to take that one to find out what it’s all about! These classes will be held in the Chapel.
Leader: Mr. Bruce Smith
Location: Fellowship Hall
Age Group: Adults
Have you every wondered what various places in the Bible look like today?
Bruce Smith will be offering a class that will be travelling through the Holy Land. He will be using personal examples as well as the Drive Thru History – Holy Land DVDs for our training material (12 lessons.)
After the Holy Land, the class will visit Italy, Greece, and Turkey, and learn about the ancient empires of Rome, Athens, and Constantinople. We will see how those ancient civilizations and the Christian faith shaped Western Civilization and the world we live in today. For that, he will be using Drive Thru History – Ancient: Christianity and the Birth of Western Civilization DVDs (12 lessons.)
Leader: Mr. Micah Nyatsambo
Location: 2nd Floor Conference Room
Age Group: Adults
Micah Nyatsambo will continue his class Finding Truth. The class will be finishing the book Finding Truth by Nancy Pearcey.
Don’t think, just believe? That’s the mantra in many circles today – whether the church, the classroom, the campus or the voting booth. Nancy Pearcey, best-selling and critically acclaimed author, offers fresh tools to break free from presumed certainties and tests them against reality. She explains five powerful principles that penetrate to the core of any worldview – secular or religious – to uncover its deepest motivations and weigh its claims.
A former agnostic, Pearcey demonstrates that a robust Christian worldview matches reality – that it is not only true but attractive, granting higher dignity to the human person than any alternative. There are two more chapters to completing this book on apologetics and it is expected it will take five weeks to accomplish.
Micah will follow with The Spirit of the Disciplines: Understanding How God Changes Lives. Believers long for personal purity and power to live as our hearts tell us we should. But, how does God change us? To perform appropriately in the moment when you’re “on the spot” you must be preparing when you’re “off the spot”. We understand this principle when we think of great athletes or musicians, but, rarely see its application in our own efforts to be a “good Christian”. The Spirit of Disciplines presents a way of living that enables ordinary men and women to join with God and realize their highest aspirations of well being and doing. The key to this self-transforming resides in the practice of the spiritual disciplines. In class we will learn why the disciplines work and how their practice affirms human life to the fullest.
